Day 1

We start to open the secrets of the island from its center - Yuzhno-Sakahlinsk. City sightseeing tour includes:

·       Visit to the regional Lore museum premised of are located in the ancient Japanese building constructed in traditional architectural style “keikan djukuri”;

·       City panorama from viewing point of the mountain skiing complex “Mountain Air”;

·       Glory prospect, Glory square, Glory alley, Kommusticheskiy prospect;

·       Memorial Complex “Victoria”;

·       Navity (Rozhdestva Khristova) Cathedral.

 

Day 2 – Velikan cape, Ptichiy cape

Itinerary: Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk – Velikan capeYuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Southern part of the island).

Departure from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to Velikan cape 135 km one way 2,5 h.

Cape «Velikan» (“Giant”) - natural sanctuary, the most beautiful and wonderful sea shore if Sakhalin island. Quaint rocks are a shape of a lion going out of the sea; or a shape a magic temple. Someone see a giant head sleeping near the water. The rocks created by Architecture-Nature itself stretch along the seashore from Ptichiy cape to Velican cape and strike by its magnificence. Up above the rocks hundreds of seagulls, cormorants and swifts. Fir trees thoroughly hide from cold sea wind. If your trip drop into July-August time, you are lucky to observe the most amazing nature phenomenon – redfish spawning.

 

Hot lunch near the seashore: Sakhalin style ukha, Korean vegetable salads, fern and burdock dishes, herbal tea.

Note: please be sure to have convenient clothes and shoes suitable for trekking, waterproof coat and rubber shoes for rainy weather.

Day 3 – highland «Frog» (considered to be magic and powerful place)

Itinerary: Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk – Vestockka settlement – highland “Frog”Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Southern part of the island).

 

The way to Vestochka settlement takes 30 minutes 12 km, then we start trekking on foot.

 

It is considered that Vestichka is the energetic center of Sakhalin. “Frog” rock is a unique nature creature appeared 70 million years ago. To get to the rock “Frog” foot we will have to walk around 20 minutes. Them trekking up to the top of the rock is around 30 minutes. And here we are, a no comparison view and picturesque landscapes. This view point opens clear picture of Aniva bay, Tunaicha and Izmenchivoye lakes. Here you will see magic stones “Sphinx”, Sunny and Moon fields, “questions and answers” stones, dive into the energy inspiring river Ayichka.

Note: please be sure to have convenient clothes and shoes suitable for trekking, cotton gloves to climb the mountains.

Picnic-lunch is prepared on the way. In the evening we are back to hotel in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk

Day 4 – «Tikhaya Bay, mud volcano Maguntan”

Itinerary: Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk – Dolinsk town – Starodubskoye settlment – Vsmorye settlment – Tikhaya Bay – mud volcano MaguntanYuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Eastern part of the island).

Early morning, we start our 2-hours trip to Tikhaya Bay.

 

We are sure to make a stop at Starodubskoye settlement where you can admire natural “Amber Shore” and even take one piece as a souvenir. Local amber is of unusually “black-tea with cherry shade” color.

 

On the way further we meet marine product market (Vzmorye settlemenet). Fresh caught fish and marine product are for your disposal. Fresh crab is cooked right before your eyes and you can try right here.

 

After we arrive to Tikhaya Bay we enjoy the sounds and the atmosphere of a seashore having a stroll along. Naturally created pictures are for your pleasure: arch-rock “Magic window”, “Elephant” stone, “Evident” (Zametniy) island.

Picnic-lunch on the seashore will add the harmony to the meal.

After lunch we start our way to the mud volcano “Muguntan” – which is the 2nd of this type on the island. It looks like a cluster of several mud lakes. In reality this is 4 kilometers in diameter mud field with several spots of vegetation. Sakhalin endemics are found exceptionally here in the volcano surroundings. One of them is “Schuchnik Tseveleva” (Poaceae, Deschampsia tzvelevii Probat)

 

Note: please be sure to have convenient clothes and rubber shoes suitable for trekking, waterproof coat and one more pair of spare shoes after leaving the volcano.

 

We are back to hotel in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk late evening.

 

Day 5 – Gastronomy cruise «Oyster collecting at Busse lake»

Itinerary: Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk – Korsakov town – Busse lake Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Sightseeing and stops: Vewing points at Korsakov town, visit to the 1st in Russian plant producing liquefied natural gas, visit to the mineral oil shipment terminal and port “Prigorodnoye” specially constructed for transporting liquefied natural gas and mineral oil tankers.

 

Walking around the Busse lake with water riding to the “oyster island”. On the island everybody can collect as many oysters as possible and try them here for lunch. Besides self-caught oyster our chef will cook scallop and urchin for you.

 

Busse lagoon is a natural phenomenon located in Korsakov region is connected with a branch to Aniva Bay in Okhotsk Sea. The place is famous by its richness of marine products. There is no need for special skills to catch here scallop, urchin, oysters, rapan and spizula (Sakhalin species of fish), shrimps, sanghara-nuts. The lake generously shares its richness with its guests.

 

We are back to hotel in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk late evening.

 

Day 6 – Cruise to Aniva Lighthouse

Itinerary: Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk – Korsakov town – Ozerskoye settlement – Novikovo settlement – Aniva cape Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

Early morning we transfer to the sea port in Novikovo to start our way to Aniva cape.

At 09:00 we start the cruise from Novikovo and at 10:30 arrive to Aniva cape.

Aniva Lighthouse (jp –Naka-Shiretoko Misaki) is not only technically complicated construction for the period of Karafuto but also and world heritage in lighthousing art. The lighthouse was the necessity to control unpredictable insidious water streams in this place. The mixture of Okhotsk Sea waters with Aniva Bay waters, frequent fogs, stone shoals, intensive ships floating – altogether made this place rather dangerous and the necessity to construct very reliable lighthouse. It was constructed by Japanese    engineer Miura Shinobu.

 

Our excursion starts at Novikovo settlement which was named after legendary battle-cruiser “Novik” which gave a battle at this place with Japanese ship in the War of 1905.

35 kilometers by ship passing Yuzhnoye settlement and Marble cape and we are here – Aniva Lighthouse. We spend here 1,5-2 hours enjoying the beauty of the surroundings, listening to the story of the lighthouse and having photo session. During way back we can easily meet local inhabitants: dolphins, whales, killer whales, seals, lion-seals, seagulls, peacefully living here.
